Hpa An is a picturesque town with a laidback feel, despite being the capital of Karen (Kayin) State.  It is famous for the myriad of jagged karst formations that jut abruptly out of the otherwise pancake flat paddy-fields. The highest and largest is called Zwegabin, considered holy by the locals.

Nearby to Hpa An is Sadan Cave, a gigantic cavern filled with Buddhas and pagodas and South east of Hpa An you will find Kaw Ka Taung cave with a swimming area offering lovely views of the surrounding rice paddies and mountains.

Kyauk Kalap is a truly unique pagoda, set on top of an unusual rock formation in the middle of a lake. It is a beautiful spot and offers great photo opportunities of Mount Zwegabin.
